move the body

As I sit here wishing doing homework (wishing that I didn't have to go outside in the chilly chilly cold to get to the gym or find my way to a yoga class) I rediscovered this picture open in one of the many many web tabs I have open...

by Julian Bialowas, discovered at Meg's blog de quelle planete es tu?

with the sub-caption "heading outdoors eventually leads you within."

This little Thanksgiving vacation was just the relaxing break from school I needed (though ideally I would not have had mountains of schoolwork to do... yikes).

Leah and I arrived at my house on Tuesday night in time for a home-cooked dinner, followed by a viewing of Brave with my brother (scarier than I expected for a Pixar movie! or maybe I'm just a wuss). The next morning we all went to breakfast at the sweetest cafe just in town--gotta love the charm of the Berkshires.

Leah carried out our Thanksgiving pumpkin pie that we got from the bakery. However, it did not last until Thanksgiving. We all ate about 2/3 the night before... oops.

But the long weekend was the perfect time to snuggle up with this crazy cat, Percy.
Leah was the perfect sous chef for Thanksgiving dinner.

Our Thanksgiving bounty. Complete with Martinelli's sparkling cider. Our little family tradition.
My dad cut our 'field roast.' As a family of vegetarians, our main course is a little less exciting than a gigantic turkey, but it works!

But I am so thankful for all of the love I have in my life, the amazing opportunities, and the extraordinary food!

A few weeks ago, after a crazy stressful period of decisions and applications, I got accepted to a Public Health program in Copenhagen, Denmark! I leave on January 11th (though I still have to book my ticket!) for 4 months of new experiences. I am so looking forward to traveling (especially to Vienna, Austria to see my lovely Leah who will be studying there while I am in Denmark) meeting new people, and exploring the (cold and dark!) city on a bicycle, as apparently all Danes do.

Funny enough, one of the things that tipped me over the edge to deciding on Copenhagen was this silly blog post from a girl my age from the U.S. who studied abroad in the same program I am doing.

I originally was quite hesitant about traveling to a cold, dark city in the absolute middle of winter. I thought Barcelona or Rome would be more my speed. But I just couldn't pass up the absolute PERFECT program in Copenhagen. But after seeing the blog post from Copenhannah--How to look like a Dane--my mind was changed. What other city had a style that was described as EXACTLY the same as mine?!
       Dark clothes
       Giant scarves
       Messy top knots
       Wedge booties

It was perfect. So... though I am incredibly nervous about being away from Leah for four whole months (we haven't been apart for more than a couple of weeks since we met 2 plus years ago in the extraordinary city of London (which I am dying to go back to)) I am so excited for this crazy crazy adventure.

Date Night.

Last night Leah and I went out for a late Friday night date night. After brainstorming for LIKE AN HOUR! about where to go (we may be kind of indecisive) we finally decided to go to a diner 20 minutes away. We'd never been there--it was recommended by a friend--and headed over for a dinner around 9. The place had JUKEBOXES! It was fantastic. And we started off dinner right with a strawberry milkshake for two and followed up with fries and sandwiches. Perfect!

This week has gone by so so fast and sooooo slow at the same time. I never understand how that happens. But after waking up to my 6:30 alarm this morning (yikes!) to do the homework that I couldn't do last night during our super surprise power outage, I know today is going to be a long long day.
Instead of all of my readings that I have to do for classes today, I wish I was...

In bed snuggled up all morning. Until...

I woke up to spend the whole day reading this book on the couch. I've been halfway done with it since I started classes a month (!) ago, and I would love to get the chance to finish it properly.

But since I will be in classes all day, I might as well get started on all this other reading with a nice cup of Earl Grey.

Happy Thursday!

Catching Up

The past few weeks have been a whirlwind. Moving into a new apartment, starting classes, reconnecting with friends--so so hectic! It has definitely been difficult getting back into 'hitting the books' every night (my courses are super reading-intensive this semester and I'm definitely not used to it yet!) but it has been so nice to be so busy again. Looming in the (not so distant) future is figuring out my plan to study in Europe next semester. I'm having the toughest time deciding (and I've been pestering everyone who I come in contact with for help with my decision).

But it's down to three:
Dublin, Ireland
Brussels, Belgium
Copenhagen, Denmark.

Want to make this decision for me?

Despite all the chaos, Leah and I have been taking some time out of our busy days to make dinner every night together. It's so lovely to stop everything to spend some time being creative in the kitchen and forgetting about everything else for just a little bit.

On the menu lately...

 Stuffed peppers

Tomatoes, mozzarella, fresh basil, and balsamic

Pad thai (made with ramen noodles!)

Inspiring me today...

 This cozy look.
 This updo.
 This lengthy scarf
And this casual braid.

Pizza Night!

Last night was one of the last nights I have home with my family before I head back to the chaos of school on Monday morning. It was nice just to hang out with my parents (though my brother was at school for the evening--he's so excited to be back with his friends after the summer) and also so nice to not have to pay for all the groceries!

DIY Studded jean jacket

This is a project I've been wanting to do for a while. But.... I've been a little too lazy to actually get around to it (I always procrastinate buying things online, in this case... the studs). But thanks to a little gift from Leah (thank goodness she had an emo middle school phase!) I finally got around to my studding project.

After years of dreaming about having my own blog, I had never anticipated how much time it would actually take! The past few weeks I have been ALL over the place. A family trip to visit relatives (and the seaside) in California, back to my little summer home, to NYC to see a good friend, home quite a number of times, and a quick visit to my girlfriend's home back in Connecticut. Plus I have plans to share lots of my silly summer adventures and I'll be moving to a new apartment in the next week.

In short, I have a lot to catch up on.

In the mean time...

this video has completely mesmerized me

i want ALL of these shoes
(i tried on a pair two years ago at London Fashion Week and i have not been able to stop thinking     about them since!)

i have plans to try out this fun DIY project in the near future

and i am absolutely so excited for fall
(sweaters, scarves, jackets. heaven.)

And just like that, no more birthday...

Birthday Day!

Happy Birthday to ME!
August 9, 2012

August 2 I celebrated my 20th(!) birthday!

It started off with a trip to Stewarts with my amazing girlfriend…

To pick up the last bag of chocolate chips (birthday luck!)…

To go home and make pancakes..

And smoothies…

And work… L
And a lovely bouquet surprise waiting for me at work from my family...

And a tasty lunch...
(Chickpea salad and the first successful food photo I've EVER taken!)

And a post-work nap…

And a delicious dinner with friends…
(not a very successful food pic with this one...)

And a little party with pie!

It was an absolutely amazing birthday. And the perfect way to start off my little blog.
